BIOGRAPHY
Tristan Cabello (Ph.D, History, Northwestern University) is an historian of minorities in the United States and France. He is a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, and Associate Director of the Master of the Liberal Arts. He regularly appears in the media to discuss race in American and French cultures and politics.
A former Mellon Foundation fellow, Dr. Cabello has presented 50+ research papers at international and national academic conferences, including the American Historical Association, The Organization of American Historians, The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and the American Culture Association. He has also given talks at American University, Johns Hopkins University, Rutgers University, the City University of New York, and the University of Chicago.
Cabello’s articles, reviews and essays have appeared in several academic journals and anthologies, such as The Global Encyclopedia of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer History (Cengage, 2019), The International Encyclopedia of Revolution and Protest (Wiley, 2018) and The Encyclopedia of Blacks in European History and Culture (Greenwood, 2015); and mainstream venues (The Huffington Post, Le Monde, Libération). He currently serves on the Editorial Board of the academic journal Queer Studies in Media & Popular Culture.
Tristan is an award-winning historian. His digital exhibit, Queer Bronzeville, won this Outhistory Fellowship. In March 2018, he served on the National Park Services (NPS) historical committee for the Stonewall National Monument.
Tristan currently serves as the Associate Director of The Master of Liberal Arts at The Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches courses in African American Studies, Queer Studies and Critical Theory. From 2015 to 2018, he was the Director of The Department of American Studies at American University. He previously taught at Bowdoin College, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.
Born and raised in France, Cabello received his BA and MA in American Studies from the University of Strasbourg, and an MA and PhD in American History from Northwestern University. Tristan lives in Harlem, New York City.

Tristan Cabello est historien et politologue, spécialiste des Etats-Unis, maitre de conférences en Civilisation Américaine à Johns Hopkins University et Docteur en Histoire Américaine. Ses spécialités sont la présidence Biden, BlackLivesMatter, l’intersectionalité (LGBT, Théorie du Genre, Critical Race), et la gauche américaine. Il intervient régulièrement dans les médias francophones.

En mars 2018, il siège au comité des historiens organisé par le Service des Parcs Nationaux américain pour la création du monument dédié aux émeutes de Stonewall.
Tristan est actuellement directeur associé de programme de Master of Liberal Arts à Johns Hopkins University, où il enseigne plusieurs cours en histoire américaine et théorie critique. De 2015 à 2018, il a été directeur du Département de Civilisation Américaine (American Studies) à l’American University de Washington, DC. Il a aussi enseigné à Bowdoin College, Northwestern University et l'Université de Chicago.
Tristan Cabello a reçu sa Licence et Maitrise en études américaines de l'Université Marc Bloch, Strasbourg, et un Master et un Doctorat en Histoire Américaine de Northwestern University. Il vit à New York, dans le quartier de Harlem.
